This is "Runt Flight" and our T-33 jet trainer - - myself on the left and my wing mates: Robert Reagan; Lt. Richard McElroy (our flight instructor); Melvin Rice and Charles Nuschke. Our instructor was the hottest fighter pilot I ever knew, but was killed just two months after graduating our group. Rice survived jet combat in Korea, but was also killed afterwards while serving as a jet instructor. Reagan had numerous serious accidents and also survived an attack from a Mig 15 in Korea while flying in an old F-80. He retired later as a Lt. Colonel. Nuschke had his share of close escapes. Then, two months after graduation, I survived a near fatal accident when my F-80 exploded during take-off, resulting in a crash, which fractured my back, requiring five months of hospitalization before returning to duty.
