Some
of the dead Japanese that were killed by the Author's Company and Cpl. Jack
Keiningham with a 37-mm anti-tank gun (using canister shells) on the morning of
the 2nd day after it's crew had all been killed during a big Banzai attack.
Some Japanese were so close that their clothing was scorched when hit. He
helped to turn the tide of battle, but was severely wounded by a heavy machine
gun that also put holes in the gun's shield. It was the author who first got to
him after the battle and carried him to an aid station. 1,600 dead Japanese
were counted in front of F Company's line where this main attack
occurred.
