These two Japanese were also some who committed suicide. They were in a machine gun bunker on the southern shore of Black Beach about 200 yards to the east of the two big 8-inch guns that were at the southwestern corner of Green Beach. This was the beach that the Japanese thought a landing would be made on, but were wrong. When inspecting this bunker, the author looked inside at this gory scene when the blood was still running. It is another unforgettable scene of Tarawa. Note that they had gas masks.
